Matrescence is the most significant transformation of a woman's adult life.

Almost no one is trained to support it.

Mama Rising is the world's leading practitioner training in matrescence — the science of who a woman becomes when she becomes a mother — and the proven method for taking that science into the rooms where it changes everything.
Pregnancy,
Adoption,
The fourth trimester,
Fatherhood.
The return to work.
The systems that hold mothers, or fail them.

ICF-recognised education provider.
Trademarked, evidence-based method.
Graduates working across healthcare, corporate, policy & community worldwide.

Understanding matrescence is the breakthrough.
Knowing how to hold it is the work.

In the last decade, matrescence has moved from a forgotten term to a body of research reshaping how we understand maternal mental health, identity, neuroscience, and the workplace.

But research alone changes nothing.

The difference is made by people who can translate it — who can sit with a mother in the disorientation of early motherhood and know exactly how to support her, and who can stand in a boardroom, a clinic, or a policy meeting and make the case for doing things differently.

That translation — from theory to practice — is what Mama Rising trains. It is the only thing we train.
And after five years and hundreds of graduates across the world, no one does it the way we do.

You're someone who sees that we need a new way of supporting mothers.

you're a change-maker, a space holder, a leader.

You're ready for Mama Rising®.

The Mama Rising training is a wonderful, in-depth look into what it means to be a mother, and how to deeply support a mother through this transition.

The space that Amy creates is warm, nurturing and supportive whilst still pushing you to reflect on your own reality, explore your own beliefs and question everything. The delivery of content, group coaching sessions and masterclasses are brilliant and all support each other through your learning journey. I am so grateful to have found this training.

Emma Snelgar, Registered Nurse & Midwife

The Mama Rising Facilitator training was literally life changing.

It enabled me to do the inner work I needed to do to ensure my own happiness was a priority. This had a ripple effect across my whole family, improved my marriage and was also the missing piece of the puzzle in my doula training. For any mamas who are considering joining this movement of women who are truly getting to grips with what it looks like to honour motherhood, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Alison Burnley, Postpartum Doula and Arts Manager

The Mama Rising Facilitator training helped me reinforce my understanding of matrescence but most importantly get clear on how I could weave this body of knowledge into my work as a Life Coach.

Amy's formula of support and the framework she provided for group workshops were exactly what I needed to gain confidence in sharing this important message with the mothers I work with. It was priceless to get Amy's support during the coaching sessions and the encouragement from the amazing community of students in the training. I feel privileged to be part of a movement that is going to change the way we value motherhood!

Mama Rising® is a unique and trademarked coaching training that empowers and equips you to support a woman's experience of becoming and being a mother, whether that's in pregnancy, postpartum, in the workplace or in the community.

It will provide you with the language you need to speak directly to the women you want to work with.

It will give you the skills to coach and support her no matter what she is going through, and it will equip you with the resources you'll need to talk to companies, governments and policymakers about Matrescence.

What is Matrescence?

First named by anthropologist Dana Raphael in the 1970s and resurrected through the research of Dr Aurélie Athan at Columbia University, matrescence describes the profound developmental transition a woman moves through when she becomes a mother — biological, neurological, psychological, social, and spiritual.

It is as significant as adolescence.

It rewires the brain, reshapes identity, and reorders a woman's entire sense of self. And until very recently, our culture had no language for it — which is why so many mothers move through it feeling like they are failing, when in fact they are becoming.

Matrescence changes how we see, value, and support a mother — in the clinic, in the boardroom, in her relationships, and in herself. That's the knowledge. Here's what makes us different.

MR Page Image 02-min

Our graduates don't just coach. They change how the world supports mothers.

After completing the training, Mama Rising graduates have gone on to:
  • Design and roll out a new pregnancy, maternity-leave, and re-onboarding program inside a global commercial real estate company.
  • Build a return-to-work support network and mentoring system across Asia-Pacific for a global recruitment firm.
  • Consult government agencies, corporations, and HR leaders on maternity-leave reform and gender equality through a parenthood lens.
  • Train midwives, doulas, social workers, and lactation consultants in matrescence-informed support, grounded in the Mama Rising method.
  • Deliver workshops into male-dominated industries to improve understanding and long-term retention of working mothers.
  • Create dedicated support for diverse paths to parenthood—including IVF, same-sex parents, and adoptive mothers.
  • Establish pro bono postnatal support for mothers in need, including our inaugural Mama Rising Ambassador's work in Africa.
  • Support nurses, midwives, and social workers in leaving traditional roles to build the businesses and practices they always knew they were meant to lead.

These are not coaching outcomes. They are system-level outcomes — created by people trained in matrescence.

Why Mama Rising is unlike anything else in this field

1

The work is already inside the world's biggest organisations.

Our graduates have carried this training into LinkedIn, Google, global banks, and major commercial firms — designing and running matrescence-informed programs for managers and parents from the inside. This isn't theory waiting for a chance. It's a method already proven in the organisations shaping how the world works.

2

Proven models across the whole arc of becoming a mother.

Not a single coaching script. Mama Rising gives you tested frameworks for the full landscape: pregnancy, adoption, fathers and partners, new mothers, the return-to-work transition, workplace struggle, and community support. Whoever walks through your door, you'll have a grounded, evidence-based way to hold them.

3

Our graduates change systems, not just individuals.

This is the part that sets us apart. Mama Rising graduates have rewritten organisational policy, redesigned maternity-leave and return-to-work programs, and trained midwives and doulas in our trademarked approach. They don't just support one mother at a time — they reshape the systems mothers move through.

4

Trauma-informed at every level.

Becoming a mother can surface grief, loss, and trauma. Our coaching and support framework is trauma-informed throughout, so you can hold the hardest moments safely and know exactly where your role ends and a referral begins.

Matrescence is universal.

So is the method.

The transition into motherhood is one of the few truly universal human experiences — and the Mama Rising framework has proven it. Our coaches now work in more than 30 countries, and the framework has been translated and delivered in German, Italian, Spanish, French, Mandarin, Arabic, and Swahili — adapted to vastly different cultures, languages, and realities of mothering, and holding true in every one. That is the mark of a framework built on something real rather than something stylistic.

It doesn't depend on where you are or what language you support a mother in. Because wherever a woman becomes a mother, she moves through matrescence — and the work of holding her translates.

Let's heal the mother to change the world.

We are in the middle of an epidemic of burnout, postnatal depression, and overwhelm.

You can see it all around you.

The knowledge to change it now exists.

What's missing is people trained to carry it.

That's who we train. And enrolment for our September 2026 intake is open now.
